Cadence is software that independent music teachers use to run their studio: a booking page, payments, video lessons, student records and lesson notes. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to teachers who sign up for Cadence and to the students and parents who book with them.
Who is responsible for what
For a teacher's own account, Cadence decides how that data is used. For the student and family records a teacher keeps in Cadence, the teacher decides what to collect and how to use it; we store and process it on their behalf to provide the service. If you are a student or parent, questions about your lessons are best sent to your teacher first. You can always contact us too.
What we collect
- Teacher accounts: name, email, studio details, availability, lesson types and prices, public page content, and plan and billing status.
- Students and parents: name, email, and optionally phone number, instrument and level, entered by you when booking or by your teacher.
- Lessons: schedules, attendance, notes and recaps written by the teacher, and (only when a teacher turns it on) video recordings.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store full card numbers; we keep the card brand, last four digits and payment status so teachers can see who has paid.
- Connected accounts: if a teacher connects Google Calendar or Zoom, we store the access tokens needed for that connection, encrypted at rest.
- Technical data: IP address and basic request logs for security and rate limiting, and the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To run the service: show availability, take bookings, send confirmations and reminders, run video lessons and collect payment.
- To draft lesson recaps with AI when a teacher asks for one. The teacher reviews every draft before anything is sent.
- To keep accounts secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To send teachers service emails such as receipts, digests and account notices.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it to train AI models.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers that make Cadence work, and only for that purpose:
- Supabase: database and sign-in
- Vercel: hosting
- Stripe: payments and teacher payouts
- Daily: video lessons and recordings
- Resend: email delivery
- Twilio: text and WhatsApp reminders, if enabled
- Anthropic: AI-drafted lesson recaps
- Upstash: rate limiting
- Google and Zoom: only if a teacher connects them
A teacher can see the records of their own students. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Children
Many music students are minors. Teacher accounts are for adults only. A child's details should be entered by their parent or guardian or by the teacher with the family's permission. Cadence asks for the minimum needed to schedule and run lessons. If you believe a child's information was added without permission, email us and we will delete it.
Recordings
Lessons are recorded only when the teacher starts a recording. Recordings are deleted automatically at the end of the retention period for the teacher's plan.
How long we keep data
We keep account and lesson data while the teacher's account is open. When an account is closed we delete it, except for records we must keep for tax, accounting or legal reasons, such as payment records.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your personal information by emailing support@cadencestudio.io. If your information is held by a teacher, we may pass your request to them. We will reply within 30 days.
Changes
If we make a material change to this policy, we will tell teachers by email before it takes effect and update the date above.
